Do you think you’re a good person? Good enough to go to heaven? Have you ever considered how good you have to be to go to heaven? The best way to see is if you have obeyed God’s Law, the 10 Commandments. Below are just 3 of them, go through each one and see if you are guilty or innocent of breaking Gods Law, and remember be honest, your eternity depends on it:

1) “You Shall Not steal” The 8th Commandment says you shall not steal. No matter how big or small, have you ever stolen something that belonged to someone else? A small theft is the same as a big theft. You only have to steal once to be a thief. It could be money, sweets or stationary. If you have, according to Gods Law, you are a thief and will be guilty before God on the Day of Judgment. This means you are not good enough for heaven.

2) “You Shall Not lie” The 9th Commandment says you shall not lie. Have you ever told a lie? Remember, a small lie is exactly the same as a big lie. To be a liar, you only have to lie once. Are you guilty of breaking this Law? Have you violated this standard of God?

3) “You Shall Not Commit Adultery” The 7th Commandment says you shall not commit adultery. Have you ever looked at a man or woman and lusted after them? Jesus warns that whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. God knows every thought. Are you guilty of breaking this Law? God won’t simply judge actions, but intentions of the heart too.

These were just 3 of the 10 Commandments. Do you see that your standard of being good is corrupt in the eyes of God? Perhaps you think God will forgive you, but would you expect a good, fair and righteous judge to pardon a murderer, rapist or thief and let him free without sentence. No, you would expect the judge to pass a sentence, otherwise he would be a corrupt judge. Likewise, do you expect a righteous and fair God to pardon your sins and let you go into heaven?

The Bible says for all have sinned and fall short of Gods glory. Every person is appointed to die someday and be judged by God. The Bible warns that if you are found guilty before a Holy God, you will spend the rest of eternity in hell. Jesus described hell as a place of eternal torment, fire and fear.

Do you realise that you are guilty before God? You have violated the Laws of God. If you were to die tonight, can you honestly say in your heart that you will make it to heaven? And remember these were just 3 of the Commandments. Does this scare you? You have a guilty verdict on your head and stand accused.

But wait, read on…
There is hope for you, there is Good News for you and for all of mankind. This hope is found in Jesus Christ whom God publicly displayed on a cross to bear your very sin upon Himself. This is what God did you for so that you could be forgiven freely and be saved from His wrath of hell:

God sent His only begotten Son into this world, to hang upon a cross, spill His blood and take YOUR sin (lust, lying, envy, theft, hatred, jealousy, fornication, drunkeness, adultery, sex before marriage) upon Himself. You broke the Law, Jesus paid your fine. He sacrificed His life for your sins, so that you could be saved and recieve forgiveness, mercy and grace.

The Courtroom
Just imagine for a minute that you are standing in a court room before a judge. You have been found guilty of a series of crimes. The fine for your crimes is £500, 000 or imprisonment. You don’t have a penny. You defence team has no way to help you and your family sit powerless. You cry one last time, hoping the judge would have mercy and sympathy. The judge is just about to pass the sentence when all of a sudden someone you don’t know steps into the court room and pays your fine. The court accepts the money and you are free to go. Your debt has been paid and you are no longer bound by the Law. The strangers sacrifice was a demonstration of his love for you. That is exactly what Jesus Christ did for you 2000 years ago. We broke the Law, Jesus paid our fine. He became your ransom and willingly died on the cross for your sins.

All you have to do is repent and believe: realise you are a sinner in need of forgiveness. Jesus commanded all men everywhere to repent and believe. You must repent and turn away from your sins, and put your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only one who can save you. You need Jesus. There is no hope for salvation outside of Him. My plea is that you would consider these words carefully. I am not condemning you but telling you in love what God has done for you. Your eternity depends on it.

In turn Jesus offers forgiveness of sin, eternal life and the truth, however there is also a cost to following Jesus. It is no easy ride.

Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6)

The Glass Eye Experiment
Can I just leave you with a final thought, perhaps the WORLDS MOST IMPORTANT THOUGHT. Imagine if a scientist offered you a £1, 000, 000 cold cash to donate one of your eyes for scientific research:

1) It would be painless surgery;
2) 15 minutes long;
3) And you’de get a glass eye replacement.

It looks just like a normal eye, but you just can’t see through it like a normal eye, for a £1,000, 000 cold cash.

Now, most of you wouldn’t do that. You’d say, “get out of here, I’m not about to donate my eye for any amount of cash”. But if the scientist upped the value to £15m, £20m or maybe even £30m then perhaps or maybe I would get an eyeball donated from someone really desperate.

But I have yet to meet one person who would sell both their eyes for even £1bn. Why? Because your eyes are precious to you, they are valuable to you. Without them life becomeS unbearable. Yet they are significantly insignificant in comparison to the scope of our body.

If Your eyes, these windows to Your soul, is worth more than all the money and riches and luxuries of the world, HOW MUCH MORE VALUABLE SHOULD BE YOUR SOUL, THAT LOOKS OUT OF THESE WINDOWS, YOUR EYES.

Jesus said: “If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you, for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. (Matthew 5:30)

I believe that any reasonable individual would take a moment to consider eternity and where your soul is going.
