Luv Esther – Does it Honour God?

“The old cross slew men; the new cross entertains them. The old cross condemned; the new cross amuses. The old cross destroyed confidence in the flesh; the new cross encourages it.” – A.W. Tozer

Sometime ago a group of us went to see the ‘Luv Esther’ production at a church in Ealing, West London called Ealing Christian Centre.

These are my thoughts on the production:

Did it honour God?
Now, I am no authority on the Bible, but the Bible is an authority of its own because it is Gods eternal truth. Therefore if any judging ought to be done, it should be in light of the Scriptures and not from my own personal thoughts, emotions or feelings. Does the ‘Luv Esther’ production honour God? No! Why, because it contradicts Gods Word and does not bring God glory. Using Scripture I shall break this down further and show you why Luv Esther does not bring glory and honour to Yahweh, the One True God. If what I am saying is true then someone and some people need to put this right with God by first of all repenting and then pulling the plug on this show.

I mean, who cares if man gets offended. Ought we not to care more about what God thinks?

A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the LORD of hosts

To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name? You offer defiled food on My altar, But say, In what way have we defiled You? (Malachi 1:6)

In the name of relevance
Luv Esther was writtern, produced and performed to bring the story of Esther from the Old Testament into a modern context. Now, there is nothing wrong with this. In fact it is a very noble thing to bring Biblical stories to the attention of the masses. We have seen it done very faithfully and successfully e.g. Joseph

Relevance is one of the words of the last few decades that the church seems to be infatuated with. But relevant to whom? To whom are we to be relevant to first and foremost? Remember this, todays culture drinks sin like water, we are not called of God to be relevant to a God hating world at enmity with its Creator. We are called to reach out our hand and pluck them from fire! Since when have we been called to be like the world in doing this.

Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” (2 Corinthians 6:17)

And do not be conformed to this world (Romans 12:2)

Paul commands the church that whatever is done, whether eating or drink ought to be done first and foremost to the glory of God:

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

However, Luv Esther has gone drastically wrong and taken the wonderful story of Esther and turned it into a circus show. In its attempt to become relevant, Luv Esther has become irreverant, to God and the true sheep of Christ. It employed the methods, music, dance, dress, talk and walk of the world and in doing so made the Cross of Christ of no effect.

Holiness – Seperation from the World
The early church was known for Seperation from the world – Christians were known as aliens, pilgrims, sojourners. They looked like they were from a different planet. They were not of this world. They didn’t think like the world, talk like the world, dress like the world and they certainly didn’t dance like the world. Where did the early Christians get these ideas from but their Master and the teachings of Scripture.

As soon as Luv Esther began the first song they played was Michael Jackson, Beyonce and a whole fest of other worldy artists who promote many things which are contrary to Gods heart. The performers danced and dressed in a way which made me blush and feel uncomfortable. Would Jesus be able to sit there and watch this in Church? He shed His blood for the church and purchased her with His blood. Is He going to allow His bride to become like the world? When will Church leaders stand up to this and rebuke this foolishness or have the Shepherds fallen asleep?

Is not God Holy (seperate from anything else) and call us to be seperate and holy for Him? Pick up the Bible and read how many times instruction is given in how we are to talk, walk, dress and conduct ourselves. Why is there so little Biblical discernment.

Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. (1 Peter 3:3-4)

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. (Colossians 4:6)

The Shepherds Have Fallen Asleep
Several of us contacted the church and Premier Christian Radio to share our thoughts, convictions and heart about this. The responses to say the least were ‘professional’ and not dealt with. What has happened to the Shepherds? Have the  churches in the UK fallen so fast asleep at the hands of sleeping shepherds that it can no longer discern what is true and what is false, what is pure and what is defiled? I was challenged by one person who claimed ‘it is your interpretation’ to which I simply quoted a Bible verse.

Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture! says the LORD.

Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the LORD. “But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the LORD. “Behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD…(Jeremiah 23:1-5)

The Heathen Mock
When the world watches this kind of dung they mock the church. People of different religions look at christianity and scorn and deride the faith so preciously delivered to us by the saints. That faith which angels dare not tread and dare not look into. Muslims look at this and say ‘shame on you.’

Oh beloved, if you are reading this consider what the scriptures say. Do not fear men but fear God!

Is there hope
There is always hope with God. With man, no, but with God yes. Hope is found in confession, repentance and restitution. To those churches who are thinking about hosting ‘Luv Esther’ I lovingly warn you about this. You will be judged by God for bringing this to your church and exposing believers to it. If you are on the ‘Luv Esther’ team study for yourselves the Scriptures say about holiness, worldliness. Lay hold of God of foolish person. Don’t just think because the Bible is mentioned it is of God. No, study the Word day and night and test all things. Abstain from evil and hold fast to what is good and wholesome.
