Put on the Lord Jesus Christ
How many times do we do things in our own flesh, strength and might? How often do we go to prayer and speak and speak and speak to God and then get up and do our own thing in the flesh? God has been speaking to me over the last few days about “Putting on the Lord Jesus Christ.”
“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ…” (Romans 13:14)
Great tribulation and persecution is on the way. We are going to be tried for our faith, challenged in our faith and made to get up and give an account of our faith in Christ. Heaven forbid and God forbid we do this in our own might. We are going to be questioned about our faith and hard pressed in all directions. The Lord has been telling me that if I do this in my own flesh I will fail over and over again and will make mistakes. But if I put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh, His name will be honoured and my life will be in tune with His heart and mind.
We must put ourselves off. We must abandon all hope in ourselves. We have to throw our trust in self as far away as possible. Our way of thinking, our way of doing things, our way of being Christian and our own understanding of the faith which has been delivered to us.
The Lord has been commanding me to approach each situation through prayer. But not just ordinary prayer. Actually going into the prayer closest and “Putting on Christ.”
I don’t think I will ever know completely what this means, but I know it means putting myself off and throwing away and abandoning all hope in my efforts and putting on Christs mind and heart. How will I do this? If I KNOW HIM! I must know Him, His character, His attributes, His heartbeat and His thinking.
Let us put on Christ in everything, at work, at home, at church, in the prayer closet, on the streets…
I would recommend reading John Piper’s “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ”.
