Marriage founded upon Christ
It’s been a while since I last wrote on That I May Know Him. It’s been a busy few weeks. I thank God for proving His faithfulness over and over again to me and Simi. We finally got married after two long years on Saturday 11th July and we thank God for a wonderful wedding and for all of our families, friends and well wishers. After that we were away in the Maldives for our two week honeymoon. This is our first Saturday since the wedding where we have been able to actually relax at home with the family and enjoy a hearty breakfast.
This morning during our devotional time together with the Lord, we prayed and read over Isaiah 40 and pondered and meditated upon the greatness, majesty and sovereign power of God above everything. In this chapter, Isaiah declares God as being independent of all creation and powers and external influences. God is not like man and does not think like men. Verse 18 particularly was illuminating as God proves His holiness. ‘To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him?’ God is unique, separate and incomparable. In fact He is so unique, holy and set apart that there is nothing in the whole of the universe to compare even an iota to Him, not even the most splendid of all angels.
We take God too casually sometimes, not realising and stepping back to gaze at His glory and terror. Jeremiah 10:10 ‘At His wrath the earth will tremble and the nations will not be able to endure His indignation’. This day is fast approaching.
It will be important for me and Simi to have a consistent time with the Lord together, for in this time our hearts will remain in Christ’s love and girded in His word. All flesh is like grass but the word of the Lord stands forever. Truly a marriage needs to be founded, whether we like it or not, upon the precepts of the Most High God. Each day we need His blood to cover us, not only individually, but as a couple as well. Scripture teaches so much about a marriage that is founded upon Christ and how the husband and wife ought to put Christ first.
We covet your prayers.
