Christian TV in the UK – An Hour of Imported American Humanism

Last night I had the misfortune of watching (I shudder at the thought of calling of it Christian television, so I’ll call it religious noise) one hour of religious noise on so-called Christian television. It was embarrassing to say the least to watch these popular, much loved televangelists using every trick and gimmick in the industry to milk the gullible and vulnerable of their finances, time and hopes. It was an hour of imported, American, man-centered humanism, where man was the goal and object of everything. By the end of it, my spirit felt grieved and rather nauseous. It was cotton candy to the maximum.

Many false professors and false teachers have gone out into this world, satisfying their own bellies. They give away free green coloured prayer cloths, healing water, and books on how to control your finances and live successfully and happily. They sell merchandise, gimmicks and cheap imitations of heavenly things. They tell you all about the laws of prosperity and success and how to be good businessmen. They tell you that there are ‘secret laws’ in place which simply need to be mastered, unlocked and picked. They tell you that these secrets can be your if you buy their latest book or pledge this many dollars or pounds into their corrupt and counterfeit ministries. They tell you that you are ‘great’ and you just need to be fine tuned to release the power and greatness of your destiny. They preach to your needs and pander to your hearts content. They wax eloquent on ‘you, you, you’. You are the be-all and end-all according to them. And many, sad to say buy into this foolish, demonic and utterly scandalous crime. They are CEO’s of business and tell you how to be successful in the world. They rob the innocent and line their ministries with the finest, similar to what the Old Testament prophets wailed against.

A whole generation of young preachers are arising who are now better businessmen than preachers. They sound more like motivation speakers than God’s anointed. These young preachers wear the finest suits and can tell you everything about your destiny, purpose and success potential, but they run shy on telling a man about the full counsel of Yahweh. They make lots and lots of noise. They get people excited and give them their injection for the week.

They refuse to preach holiness, separation, God’s holy justice, hell, the wrath of God. They refuse to tell men they are lost, sinful and enemies of God. They refuse to warn men they will die and face the red hot justice of a holy God. They refuse to draw men and women to come to Christ because He is worthy. They refuse to proclaim the divine attributes of God and proclaim the exclusiveness of the Christian Gospel. They refuse to tell you that you will suffer and be rejected by men. They refuse to tell you the weight of the cross and the cost of following Jesus may cost you everything.

Who are they? They are the darlings of the Christian world – Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen, Creflo Dollar, Benny Hinn, John Hagee, Mike Murdock, Joyce Meyer, Matthew Ashimolowo, T.D. Jakes, Paul and Jan Crouch, Ramson Mumba, John Francis. The list grows day by day as more and more of these types of preachers grow in demand. They all share each others pulpits and brandish this new form of Christianity which finds no historical, theological or Biblical support. Be warned of prosperity theology.

It is high time to cry out to God. The very existence of this type of Gospel in the UK clearly highlights God’s judgement upon this nation. The American dream has hit the shores of the UK and it goes unchallenged day by day. No one dare say anything lest being branded ‘judgemental’. But to whom shall I give an account, man or God.

If you want to hear Christ-centered, God exalting preaching, listen to Leonard Ravenhill, Paul Washer, David Wilkerson Carter Conlon, John Macarthur, John Piper, Zac Poonen, K.P. Yohannan, Tim Conway, William Carrol and the likes of these men.

There are three good websites where you can download free sermons where everything is Christocentric. You won’t be tickled or patted on the back. You won’t be asked for money for foolish projects. You will be asked for holiness though. You will be challenged about your prayer life and your witness to the lost. Check out www.sermonindex.net, www.illbehonest.com and www.sermonaudio.com

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 2 Tim 4:3-5

“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” 2 Tim 3:12

About the Author: Vic Gill was born in Southall, London, in 1982 and grew up in the hindu religion. Although he responded to the gospel at the age of 13, it was not until the age of about 21, following some years of sinful and reckless living, that Vic came to the end of himself and experienced true repentance towards God and genuine saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. After being saved from his sin, God began giving him a desire to serve Him. Burdened for the youth and lost souls, he served in youth ministry and street evangelism in Southall. In 2004 he graduated from Brunel University with a degree in Business Management but had an eager desire to serve the Lord. Soon after, God opened a door for ministry internship at Pastor David Wilkerson's Church (Times Square Church) in New York City. After serving for a term, Vic came back to the UK with a greater desire and love for God's work. In 2007, he enrolled at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University to study theology and graduated soon after with a Diploma in Biblical and Theological Studies. He met his wife, Simi at Church and they have been married since July 2009. They opened up their home to lead weekly Bible studies which soon outgrew their small living room. They are now currently serving under the accountability and leadership of Pastor Barry King with the Grace Baptist Partnership leading a Church plant work in London, Uxbridge. Vic's greatest aspirations are to love his wife, faithfully expound God's Word to a dying world and to simply love Jesus and know Him more intimately. He enjoys studying the Puritans, Reformed Theology and Philosophy. Vic is also the founder of That I May Know Him web ministries which started in September 2008.

  1. Sonny says:

It is very sad that that false preachers are decieving so many souls and leading them to eternal wrath.

    2 Timothy 4:3-4

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

Many people who follow them do not want to hear the truth. They do not want God infact they hate God.

But a true man of God does what 2 Timothy 4:2 says.

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

God bless you bro and I am glad that you wrote about these things.
