This is How God Provides for His Children
God’s providence and confirmation seems to be with us. He has been speaking to me through brothers and other miraculous ways. Last night, as I sat at my desk praying and thinking about what to preach at ENGF tomorrow, I felt the Lord not giving me permission to preach on Titus. As I waited and tarried, the Lord gave me the topic of ‘Intercessory Prayer’ as I flicked through the Word. I decided not to prepare a long written sermon as I usually do, but to trust in God’s leading to speak through me. I found four verses in Scripture in which Jesus address the importance of intercessory prayer.
After this, I decided to listen to a sermon. It just so happened that I stumbled upon one of brother Paul Washer’s sermons on prayer, which I had always skipped over. This time, I decided I should have a listen. Let me make it clear, I wasn’t looking to hear a sermon on prayer or intercessory prayer. Lo and behold, he spoke much about the prayer life of the minister and of Jesus. The minister of the Gospel must pray much and his prayer life ought to be alive. God greatly encouraged my heart and spoke into my inner most man.
The following morning I was getting ready to go to Halfords to get some car oil. As I was leaving I remembered that I needed some music to listen to in the car as I was getting a bit bored of the Jason Upon album which I have been listening to for over 3 years now. I quickly flicked through a bunch of CDs and flicked right over a sermon called ‘Friends of God Part 10’ by William Carroll. I didn’t want to listen to a sermon in the car so I decided not to take it and continue searching. However I felt greatly impressed to pick this CD up so I did. I don’t ever recall hearing this sermon and never got around to listening to it 3 years ago. I put it into the CD player of my car and lo and behold, in typical William Carroll style, he says ‘My brothers and my sisters, this evening I would like to speak to you on the topic of intercessory prayer’. I smiled. I knew God in His sovereign way made sure I listened to this sermon. He knew I needed to hear it. I instantly knew that God had confirmed that this is the message for the church at this time.
Praise God He speaks. He speaks and confirms many things to those who are willing to listen and be used of God.
Anyway, this morning God continues to provide. Simi and I have been talking about the possible purchase of a laptop to help with some of our work and sermon preparations etc. We knew we couldn’t afford it so we decided not to go ahead. As I sat at my desk studying Genesis 18, Simi from the other rooms says ‘Vic, I found a laptop’. I said ‘you what?’ It’s not everyday you find laptops in your small two bedroom apartment. Well, in this case she did. Hidden quietly at the bottom of the wardrobe was a laptop complete with cables, charger and books.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5).
