Weekly Bible Study & The Goodness of God

| October 14, 2009 | 0 Comments

I am updating my journal entry and documenting the goodness of God upon our lives. We have now started a Friday night Bible study group which takes place every Friday evening. It’s been a long time in the making but the timing for this has been perfect. It’s been a while now since I’ve desired to start a thoroughly Biblical fellowship for believers and non-believers to come and hear the Gospel and God’s great gift of His Son. It is a privilege to even study the Bible together in the comfort of our own home without any persecution. We should rejoice in this and make the best of this. We should refrain from wasting our lives and wasting our time on fruitless and futile activities.

I have been teaching from one of my favourite letters in the Bible called Philippians. In our first Bible study I led an expository study from Philippians 3:1-11, culminating in my favourite verse 10.

Last week, the Holy Spirit put it on my heart to continue in the study of the letter to the Philippians. So I led a topical study on chapter two, looking at the glory of Christ veiled under the cloak of His flesh. In other words, Jesus did not lay aside His divine attributes; He simply covered them with His flesh in His great humility. Had He coming in His blazing glory, who could behold Him? His sheer glory would have consumed fragile man.

We thank God for the privilege and great responsibility of teaching His Word. I trust that I lead with care and humility, but sound in doctrine and faith. The letter to the Philippians Church provides a Biblical model for a Biblical Church. It was affectionate, loving, sincere, grateful, caring, hospitable to missionaries, missions minded, sound in doctrine and loved Jesus and the Apostle Paul.
