The Decline of Pubs – Revival or Decay?
The BBC has recently reported in pictures on the ‘The sad decline of the Great British Pub’. Apparently, it appears that British pubs are closing in the bucket load all across the country. You can see the pictures below. But the question remains – what is replacing the pubs? Where are the drinkers going? What new amusement or pass time are the locals now indulging in? The Decline of Pubs – Revival or decay?
I don’t believe there has been a spiritual revival in Britain yet which has cleared out the pubs. We haven’t quite seen a mass exodus from pub to Church where men and women fall on their faces before a holy God. So, before we begin jumping for joy, we have to simply take a look around us and see what is taking its place. Betting shops, bingo halls, casinos, clubs, mosques, temples and strip clubs are springing up in almost every city and town in Britain.
The face of Britain truly is changing and it is the duty and responsibility of the true Church of Jesus Christ to arise, stand to its feet and cry out to God for mercy and grace to flood this nation again. Only when the Church does this will God’s hand of favour begin restoring this great nation again. Humility and repentance is what God desires. However, the Church is muddled up in foolish games of political correctness, appeasing Islam and fads like environmental ‘green’ schemes.
When revival does break out in this country, it will altogether be a completely different spiritual atmosphere like it was in the days of the Welsh or Scottish revivals. However it will take some broken men and women before a holy God to acknowledge this need. Biblical principles are a sure foundation, a pillar of any establishment. The moment you reject them and move away from them, you remove from under your feet the very ground you stand on.
This nation and the people of this nation need Jesus Christ. You may laugh, scorn and deride this proclamation, but the undeniable truth is that Jesus is the ‘Way, the Truth and the Life’ (John 14:6). The wisdom of this foolish world will seek the advice of think-tanks, surveys and report to bring this nation back to glory, not realising that they too have been exhausted, tried and found wanting. Jesus is the hope and joy of all nations. He not only restores mankind but also nations. The Bible says ‘You are Complete in Him’ (Colossians 2:10).
A spiritual revival in this nation will:
- begin restoring moral chaos.
- bring a great sense of responsibility in marriage.
- bring drunken fathers back to their senses.
- bring the family back to the dinner table.
- bring respect back into the school.
- bring honour for parents back into the home.
- distribute prosperity equally.
And this is just the beginning. This may be laughed off as a ‘Noah and the Ark’ type of post, but you only have to read Genesis to see what happened to those who laughed.
So, what is it to be, revival or decay? Either way, Jesus said ‘But unless you repent, you too will all perish’ (Luke 13:5). Repentance will bring revival and the symptoms of a perishing world is decay. We are on the brink of perishing.

I totally believe its the need of the hour. I am really tired of political correctness and pray that God will equip me and strengthen me to stand for the Lord.
God is calling young men and women to lay down their lives for His Gospel and preach the Gospel.
Who will heed God’s voice? If you do, prepare to be misunderstood, hated, rejected and despised.
Does the Church tell you this anymore?
