The Only True God – A Bible Study on the Attributes of God

| January 2, 2010 | 0 Comments

If there is a God, then what is He like? What does He love? What does He hate? Is it even true that God can hate? Why does the Bible call God a ‘jealous God?’ What does the justice of God look like? If God is loving how can He send people to hell?

‘That I May Know Him’ is pleased to be starting this coming January 2010 a new series of Bible Studies titled ‘The Only True God – A Bible Study on the Attributes of God’. The 25 part weekly study will last approximately 6 months and aims to focus on the person of God, His attributes and His nature as the Scriptures testify.

We hear everything pertaining to God, but seldom do we hear about God Himself. There is so much noise from the pulpits of many churches today, but very little noise is made about the majesty and justice of God’s character. There is a great need to begin teaching again on the attributes of God in order that the people of God again lift up their eyes to the loftiness of His majesty. A.W. Tozer very succintly pointed the error and malady when we stop speaking much about the attributes of God. Below are a selection of quotes which I believe summarise the burdens and convictions of the upcoming Bible Study:

A.W. Tozer quotes regarding the attributes of God:

“Man fell when he lost his concept of God…”

“…the only way to have a restored confidence in God is to have a restored knowledge of God.”

“faith is confidence in the character of God and if we don’t know what kind of God God is, we can’t have faith.”

“…we’ve also suffered one great central loss: our lofty concept of God…we’ve suffered the loss of that high concept of God…”

“It is by neglect, degenerate error and spiritual blindness that some are saying God is their “pardner” or “the man upstairs.”

“Christianity has lost its dignity. And we’ll never get it back unless we know the dignified Holy God, who rides on the wings of the wind and makes the clouds His chariots.”

“This tragic and frightening decline in the spiritual state of the churches has come about as a result of our forgetting what kind of God God is.”

“We must see God again; we must feel God again; we must know God again’ we must hear God again. Nothing less than this will save us.”

“One hour with the majesty of God would be worth more to you now and in eternity than all the preachers…that ever stood up to open their Bible.”

“I want a vision of the majesty of God.”
