Is Jesus Qualified to Speak as God?
We live in a world full of religious confusion and deception. Apparently everybody is now speaking on behalf of God. All sorts of cults and religions esteem religious figures who have absolutely no qualification to speak as God or on behalf of God. Millions of people worship false prophets, false deities, false teachers and mere men. Many arise overnight claiming to speak on behalf of God because they have had some mystical experience. But who is qualified today to speak on behalf of God? Who is qualified to speak as God? The Gospels show us that Jesus alone stands head and shoulders above all who ever walked the earth. No one comes close to the words uttered from the mouth of the Lord Jesus Christ. His statements are too lofty to be the words of a mere man. He spoke with great authority and great power. But let us take a closer look at what qualifies Jesus Christ to be the mouth piece of God Almighty.
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. (Hebrews 1:14)
From the scriptures above we see there are 7 things which qualify the Lord Jesus Christ to speak as God. If He is qualified to speak as God, we had better hear Him.
Qualification 1 – Jesus is the Son of the Living God
Jesus is not an employee of God. He is His Son. His interests, desires, ambition, goal is the same as His Fathers. The Son possesses the Fathers love and seeks to bring His Father glory and honour. His desire is to at all times be pleasing to His Father. He says everything His Father says. Is Jesus qualified to speak? Yes, He is the Son of the living God.
Qualification 2 – Jesus is appointed the heir of all things
God has appointed Jesus heir of all things. Not the heir of some thing’s like a house, city, car, nation or a few people. He has been appointed Him heir of all things. What is an heir? An heir is one who inherits everything that belongs to the superior or predecessor. This could mean possessions but also rank. Is Jesus qualified to speak on behalf of God? Absolutely. God has appointed Him to speak on His behalf. All things belong to Jesus Christ. How many religious leaders can claim to being an equal heir with God Almighty?
Qualification 3 – Through Jesus the whole word was created
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. (Colossians 1:15-19)
Qualification 4 - Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God
God’s glory is so bright that no man is able to look at God and live. God is a consuming fire and anyone who sees God in His glory will perish. The Lord Jesus Christ is the radiance of that glory. He makes it possible to look at God and live. The glory of God shines in the face of Christ without consuming us. Is He qualified to speak as God? Absolutely.
Qualification 5 - Jesus is the exact imprint of God’s nature
Can anyone see where it says a ‘similar, near-enough, accurate’ imprint of his nature. It says the Lord Jesus Christ is the exact imprint of his nature. Is Jesus qualified to speak to us? You can be sure He is more than qualified to speak to us.
Qualification 6 - Jesus upholds the universe by the word of his power
This speaks about the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. I think it is safe to say that the One who upholds the entire universe by the word of His power is fully qualified to speak as God. Can you name one person who can do what the Bible says Jesus does?
Qualification 7 – After making purification for sins
Finally, He is qualified to speak to us and speak as God on behalf of God because He is the one who can purify a murderer. He is the One who can forgive a rapist; the One who can wash away the sins of a liar; the One who forgives the thief, the blaspheming, God hating sinner. All these things make the Lord Jesus Christ fully qualified to speak to us.
