Part 18 | The Only True God – God is True

| May 24, 2010 | 0 Comments

One of the most exlcusive statements ever made in the Bible and indeed to proceed from the lips of man is found in John 14:6. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” But hang on, what about Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Hinduism? What about all those who claim to be a path to God? Not all can be the truth can they?

Part 11 | The Only True God – God is Omnipotent

| May 10, 2010 | 1 Comment

He has chosen to keep this attribute exclusively to Himself and therefore the word itself is true only of God and Him alone. His power is not like ours; it doesn’t decrease or run low, it is at its optimum at all times. We tire and require rest to recuperate, but God is never in need of respite and His power remains un-relinquished.

Part 14 | The Only True God – God is Love

| April 28, 2010 | 0 Comments

In the Bible we see three particular affirmations about what God is? God is Spirit, God is Light and as in the above verse, God is Love. But what does it mean that God is love? You may have heard the expression “God is love and love is God.” It sounds very noble but how true is it to say love is God?

Part 13 | The Only True God – God is Righteous

| April 25, 2010 | 0 Comments

A day of judgement has been set aside when all things shall be brought before a righteous God. The fact that God is righteous poses the greatest problem for all of mankind. Mankind has failed to realise that the God of the heavens and the earth is a righteous God. And if He is a righteous God this means they, being unrighteous will surely stand guilty before Him.

Part 12 | The Only True God – God is Good

| April 11, 2010 | 0 Comments

Throughout the centuries of the world man has asked, at least in his heart, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ Religion provides answers through the practicing of rites and rituals and doing whatever is classified as ‘good’ in that belief system. From keeping the five pillars of Islam to practicing Zen wisdom to attending Mass and the confessional, religion has laid down a salvation based on our own good works rather than on God’s goodness. Knowing the God of the Bible involves a Biblical understanding of goodness- both God’s and ours.

Part 9 | The Only True God – God is Omnipresent

| April 6, 2010 | 0 Comments

Omni meaning ‘all’ and praesēns meaning ‘presence’. God is all present at once. The word “omnipresence” is not found in the Bible, but the teachings of the scriptures clearly reveal it. This attribute of God is an incommunicable attribute, meaning He does not share it with anyone or anything. This attribute belongs exclusively to the God of the Bible.

Jesus Veiled His Glory through Flesh

| August 26, 2009 | 0 Comments

The divine nature of Christ is one of the most debated issues in Christendom and religion. The reason being is because if Christ is truly who He says He was then the ramifications for the world are eternal, heaven or hell. The incarnation of Christ is the mystery of the divine nature being in union with human flesh. Read on as I try to understand as I share a few of my thoughts on a wonderful subject.

Today is quite a big day for me. It’s the end of one particular journey and the start of a new journey. Today is the submission deadline for my final essay on the theological course I’ve been studying at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford for the last two years. My final essay topic is on the Old [...]

What were the issues of social injustice addressed by Amos, and how did he address them?

| June 24, 2009 | 3 Comments

By Vic Gill The book of Amos is short, exciting, snappy and full of themes which make out for a popular war movie. It sits uniquely amongst the other books of the Bible and in particular amongst the prophets. Several distinguishing features about the life of Amos and his ministry mark this book out from [...]

Have you ever seen or heard of a sheep just taking a seat on a mountain top and being amazed at the marvel of a sunset? Have you ever seen a group of elephants huddle up together to watch the stars at night? Or even still, have you ever seen a cat wandering around just [...]

Thomas Cranmer and the English Reformation

| March 11, 2009 | 0 Comments

The English Reformation has a history of its own and a very interesting one too. It is full of colourful characters, unusual, dramatic and often at times melodramatic events. It is also widely considered as the turning point for Christianity in England because it brought along reformed ideas, thoughts and ways of doing things, not only in the church, but also in England.

Why Should we Study Theology?

| February 23, 2009 | 0 Comments

Systematic Theology aims to order the doctrines of the Bible into one coherent framework allowing us to understand the person of God, the nature of man, sin and its consequences, Christ and His salvation, the church, the eternal state and how each relate to the other.

The Glory of God in Imputation

| September 5, 2008 | 0 Comments

The Biblical doctrine of Imputation has brought much liberty and joy to me as a Christian. It is one of those doctrines which you can read over and over again and still never come to grasp it fully because of the enormity of its significance. This is one of the best examples I can think of whereby Theology has caused me to love my precious Saviour that much more. The Glory of God in Imputation.

Theology – Why Bother?

| September 5, 2008 | 1 Comment

What is theology and why bother with it? When I tell people I am studying theology, the first question they usually ask is, “What on earth is theology?” And a very good and reasonable question too I’d say. In this ‘Theological Reflection’, I will seek to try and answer this question as best as I can. I have to confess I don’t understand it all and know it all, but I love it enough to want to communicate it.
